CyberFirst Advanced is back for summer 2026, giving students aged 16 to 17 across Wales the chance to build advanced cyber security skills, explore future study and career pathways, and experience life at university, all at no cost.
Do you know a student aged 16 to 17 with a strong interest in technology, problem-solving or cyber security? CyberFirst Advanced returns this summer, offering a unique opportunity to develop in-demand technical skills while gaining valuable insight into university study and cyber careers.
What will students learn?
CyberFirst Advanced is delivered through an engaging hub-and-spoke model. Leading technology company QinetiQ delivers core content virtually to university hubs across the UK. This approach gives students access to cutting-edge industry expertise alongside face-to-face university and careers experiences.
During the week, students will explore topics including:

CyberFirst Advanced is ideal for students considering future study or careers in technology and cyber security. Participants are introduced to university and industry-level cyber concepts, helping to build technical confidence and strengthen applications for higher education or apprenticeships.
Students who successfully complete the course also receive a certificate that supports applications for the highly sought-after TechFirst Bursary programme. The bursary offers £4,000 per year alongside paid industry placements through the National Cyber Security Centre.

Eligibility
Students aged 16 to 17 who live in Wales
We’ve created a FREE A3 Bilingual Poster for your school or college. This can be printed and placed anywhere in your school. It doesn’t have to be the computing lab. In fact, we suggest where there’s a high footfall to help increase awareness.
